Hone’s hydrogen power service energizes it’s first major production in Toronto

Hone is proud to report that its new clean hydrogen service flawlessly powered a major Film and TV production in Toronto throughout its heaviest single snowfall event on record. Hone’s mobile hydrogen power equipment, including the company’s 165 kW generator and its proprietary Fuel BlockTM, was delivered to the Film and TV crew’s basecamp on the city’s lakeshore on Sunday afternoon during the peak of the storm.

“Hone’s generator performed as promised,” said Bob Oliver, CEO of Hone. “Customers would usually rely on a diesel genset for this kind of production, but the hydrogen genset carried the load just as well, keeping the operation up and running despite the cold, the wind, and the snow.”

“During six hours of continuous output, 485 kWh of AC power was supplied to the Film and TV production’s basecamp,” says Ry Smith, Hone’s Chief Technology & Innovation Officer. “By using Hone’s hydrogen delivery service, the production prevented the burning of some 175 litres of diesel and the release of approximately 500 kg of carbon dioxide emissions, which would otherwise have occurred.”

“This is how Hone’s mobile hydrogen power service works to decarbonize the Film and TV sector, as well as other commercial activities that are dependent on portable generators,” explained David Hardy, Chief Market Development Officer at Hone. “This week, Hone proved that clean, zero-emission hydrogen power, delivered where, when and as it’s needed, is possible even under the most challenging weather conditions, and that Hone can begin to offer a practical alternative to diesel-generated power.”

Hone is a Canadian climate-tech startup based in Toronto, Ontario, that provides the services of hydrogen fuel logistics, virtual grid and emissions-free power generation. Its generators are built by Sommers Generator Systems in Stratford, Ontario, using a hydrogen-fueled combustion engine manufactured by DEUTZ AG in Cologne, Germany. The low-carbon hydrogen for this deployment was sourced from Charbone Hydrogen Corporation’s electrolysis facility in Brossard, Québec. Visit https://honeinc.ca/ to learn more.
